Healthy Eating in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is much more than fresh air, beautiful beaches, and a happy social life.

The country offers an abundance of natural fruits allowing anyone to enjoy a healthy lifestyle in Costa Rica.

There are numerous fruits, such as mangos, granadillas, maracuyás, guayabas, and mamones, that you can enjoy; that’s just a partial list. Imagine all of the delicious smoothies, plus the combinations of fruit plates that you can make for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Costa Ricans love to eat fruit, and they eat it in large quantities. Walking through the city, you can find many stores and street vendors offering bananas, papayas, and watermelons. We can’t forget coconuts (“Pipa”). A daily pipa is a must to keep you hydrated on a hot/sunny tropical day.

Detoxing

There may be times that you need to cleanse yourself, and the abundance of fruits of Costa Rica makes it easy to detox. You can mix in some vegetables, also in abundance, with your favorite fruits and flush those toxins away. Many people love creating “Green” detox juices to help sustain their healthy lifestyles of eating.

An example, get the leaves from a sour cane, spinach, lemon, and guanabana tree. Cut all the leaves very small, and add turmeric, pineapple, and some lemon juice. Drink it up quickly!

Salads

You can be creative with your salads too. The many fresh-grown vegetables will allow you to create amazing salads. You can make “Ensalada Rusa” (beets), “Picadillos” (finely chopped veggies), “Chimichurri” (garlic, parsley, peppers, olive oil), or “Ensalada de Repollo,” better known as “Coleslaw.”

We hope you find the best Healthy Lifestyle Diet that is perfect for you!
