Having the right representative by your side is vital to getting through the residency process. This means you will need to have some questions answered to stand the best chance of getting through. Here are five points that should factor into consideration who to choose to be your representative.

Informed Guidance

Get the right advice! That way, you can make an informed decision about which category to apply for residency. You’ll need a knowledgeable and experienced representative to complete the paperwork. They should also let you know what you need to complete the residency process. Plus, the representative should start working even if you are still in your home country.

Bilingual Representative

This may seem obvious, but you will need a representative with full command of your language and Spanish. This is because a representative with insufficient command of English may mean they are telling you information that turns out to be misunderstood or flat-out wrong. Therefore, you want someone who knows your language well and can relay what you need to know.

Light Touch

It’s easy to get buried in the paperwork! Your representative should be able to guide you through the residency process with a light touch. This means telling you exactly what you need to know without bogging you down in unnecessary details. When immigration makes a request, your representative will respond and inform you about what is happening. Plus, they should negotiate on your behalf if any unreasonable request is made, which has been known to happen with immigration services.

The Right Connections

You will want a representative with the proper connections so that they can move your paperwork as quickly as possible. Plus, they will know who to contact if a question arises or if something is wrong. Having a representative with the right connections means saving days, if not weeks, to deal with unexpected events that need a proper response. Plus, those who are well connected can limit the confusion and frustration that sometimes occurs during the process.

Proper Fees & Timely Service

Finally, you will want a representative who charges appropriate fees for their work and pushes through the residency process promptly and professionally. That way, you can process your residency quickly and enjoy your stay in Costa Rica. It also helps if the representative is friendly, personable, and relatable, so you can engage with questions and have the answers delivered in a prompt manner.

The fee structure should be based on results, not on the time it takes to push through your application. This is because a typical application process takes seven to ten months, mostly because immigration is bureaucratic and understaffed, given the demand. However, the wait will be worth it when you get a representative who knows the process and can deal with or even avoid complications so that you can start your residency in Costa Rica.
